It wasn't until the Norman invasion and the introduction of heavy middle French vocabulary that the Anglo language adapted into a form of old English that slowly became(over the course of ~1500 years) the English we use. The good news is it makes the US written word uniquely identifiable.Īlso, English has been a mutt language since the earliest Saxon invasion which introduced heavy Germanic roots into the anglo base forming an ancient anglo-saxon language. The u is silent and unneeded, and does little to the word except to differentiate it from US and non-US. "Armor", "Honor", "color" are easy examples of where the 'u' is an unnecessary link to show original middle French origin of the words. Webster was a genius, one may not realize it, but the simple act of removing 'u' from many words made the word that much easier to read. I'm not going to get into a discussion about "who's right and who's wrong" on this issue, it would be wise if you refrained as well. I'll have you know if they want to add any kind of altered English it should be American English. Americans are the ones who have butchered and altered our language. Besides, that's not how Australians say those words. He means replacing record with didgeridoo and boat with surfboard is a bit stereotypical, not the bolded ones. So, I will ask youz a question, "What're yoo talking aboot, eh?" I sincerely doubt that there would be anyone that could POTENTIALLY be offended.īesides, I've played plenty of games rated E (PEGI 10) that have things magnitudes more offensive than comedically overused nationally identified words and even as offensive as they are in comparison, they are NOT offensive in the least.
So, in the end there is no harm and there is no one getting hurt. In fact, I know plenty of Americans that don't connotate a trunk of a car as being it's boot. Especially since it is SINCERELY light-hearted.Īlso, differences like "tire" and "tyre", "petrol" and "gasoline", "hood" and "bonnet", "trunk" and "boot" are not stereotypes they are literal differences in vocabulary. If someone wants to download a pack like that themselves, I see no problem with it, but Mojang including potentially offensive national stereotypes with their game is not a good move.
